Nas

Street's Disciple

Too much filler, not enough ether!!!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
I have always had mixed feelings about Nas, on one hand he is one of the best lyricists ever, yet at the same time, he often picks the wrong beats and can really struggle with the chorus. I was looking forward to this album because of "Thief's Theme" and the fact that the battle with Jay-Z is officially over, however, he seems a little uninspired to put together a double CD. Had it been reduced to 14 songs, the rating would definetly be higher however some songs are terrible and some are boring, and as usual contradictory(ie The Making of a Perfect Bitch.) Standouts are "These are out Heroes," "A message to the feds..." "Nazareth Savage," and "Suicide Bounce." I can't even listen to a lot of the second disc and I have to question why he doesn't do more with established artists(give us another Scarface collabo, Jada, Styles, Ghostface, Rakim rather than telling us about him etc...) Thankgod the Bravehearts aren't on this. Nas fans are going to like it no matter what, thats been the way they have been forever.
