Nas

Street's Disciple

To G. Kubrak :....this album is 5 stars

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
While I cannot call this CD a "classic" or a "masterpiece" as some have done, this is without a doubt one of the best albums of the last couple of years and a CD any hip hop fan should have. There are a few songs on here that are not on par with Nas' usual greatness, but the positives on this double album FAR outweigh the negatives. I also disagree with all the fans complaining about the production. There are some weak beats on the CD for sure, but there are also a lot of exceptional beats and the overall feel and flow of the album are great. Some of the great beats on here are Nazareth Savage, Just a Moment, You Know My Style, Live Now, Thief's Theme... The list could go on and on.

Despite the few weak tracks on this CD I gave it 5 stars because to me Nas sets an example of what the true art of hip hop is. Any album you come away from listening to and feel like you have gained knowledge and understanding of life, yourself and the world is simply amazing. There are not many rappers, or musicians for that matter that can bring up the emotions, feelings and thoughts that Nas does and for that he is, in my opinion, easily one of the GOAT. The only thing that really annoyed me about this CD is how much sexual innuendo Nas uses. I don't remember him going off on females and sex in general as much as he does here on any of his previous albums. To me he always referred to sex in an intellectual, insightful manner like how he did on "Pu**y Killz" on God's Son, but here he just goes off repeatedly on his past sexual encounters and he does it in a specific manner. That really is the only thing, lyrical wise that put me off. But depsite any imperfections this album may have it is definitely something any hip hop fan should own and listen to. I mean really "listen" to, you might just learn something.
