The Lost Tapes is a collection for everyone to hear. Even though I don't always play it completely through, I can admit Nas was spitting truth in every single track. This album was heavily slept on and maybe there was a reason it had so little promotion, I don't know. Let me say I am so glad I got this CD when it was released. Just take a listen!
"Doo Rags" has the sound that makes you just want to kick back and reminisce. "No Ideas Original" is cleverly played over a sample of a Barry White classic and still feels fresh and new. "Blaze a 50" is one of the great stories of the album, each lyric coming through and painting vivid illustration. "Purple" and "Drunk by Myself" are like testimonies about dealing with life's struggles. The realest ever- I mean the realest will just come at you and grab you. The beat may have been a little off and Nas' singing can be a little strange to hear at first but when you listen to "Black Zombie" you will be smacked with a little dose of truth. I was feeling Nas hard on those lyrics..."we just copycat following the system" We have all been in that position, it's all about what you do to improve yourself. Just listen!
