The progression of aggression
Review Score:

(10/10)
Nasum prove once again that there is room for expansion within the grindcore genre without diluting the music's inherent brutality. "Human 2.0" sees guitarist (and producer) Mieszko Talarczyk handling more of the vocals than he did on "Inhale/Exhale", the band's essential debut full-length, leaving drummer Anders Jacobson's lower deathgrowl to more of a support role. The music is equally ferocious as the material on the debut, but occasionally ventures into previously uncharted territory, such as on the album closer "Sometimes Dead is Better", where the melodic, almost haunting opening passage sets an unlikely tone for the caustic grindcore beating that quickly follows. The album is rife with such savory details, adding some depth and maturity to the unadulterated abrasiveness of the band's core sound. "Detonator" follows in the Swedish crust-punk tradition with it's straight up-tempo pacing and direct vocal delivery, stripping down the band's sound to it's most basic, while other sections of the album stretch the Nasum approach in heretofore unexpected ways. Without compromising their integrity or the integrity of the grindcore genre, Nasum have managed to progress considerably with their second album, and in my opinion are the best band in the genre currently in operation today.
