I grew up on Neil Diamond. My parents love his music. Unfortunetly, I moved onto the pop-rock scene and came to despise Neil's music. Recently, after the people down the hall blasted his music on their stereo, I've rediscovered his music and have a new found love for it. I immediately went to get get what ever best hits album may be out and found this. It has all the great songs I remember from back when I was a kid, and many I'd long forgotten. It has absolutely every song I'd hoped for. Now I'm constantly listening to it over and over again. However, as much as I like this album, there is one little problem. As said in other reviews, the live versions left me cold. I always remembered Neil as being a great show man, who's live performances were usually as good as the studio recordings. Maybe it's time blurring the memory, but such is definately not the case in the thirteen live songs included on this album. Most of the time he's yelling out the lyrics instead of singing. As much as I love the songs "Sweet Caroline" and "Cracklin' Rosie," I usually find myself skipping them. But the studio recorded songs are still wonderful listening to. I don't know of any other album that has so many of his hits on one compilation. Over all, it was a great buy. Just be warned, there are quite a few, otherwise great songs, that you'll probably be compelled to skip over.
