A Superb Collection of Great Hits
Review Score:

(10/10)
Yes, there are 13 live tracks in this greatest hits collection, but they are all great recordings. In particular, Soolaimon stands out as being Neil's best performance of the song that I have ever heard. The song is filled with power and energy---something Neil Diamond is known for in concert.
In this collection, you'll find most of the biggest hits of Neil. However, missing are some great gems like "Stones" and "He Aint Heavy..He's My Brother". I suppose the collection could never be sufficient to cover the huge hit collection that Diamond has amassed over the past 30+ years. The collection seems to order the songs somewhat chronologically, beginning with Neil's earliest hits and ending with (at the time) some of his most recent material.
Diamond's writing style is always fairly direct leaving little in the way of interpretation meaning. However, the simplicity of the lyrics adds to the true emotional feeling and quality of the music. Each lyric is wrapped in a strong melody that hooks you in and before you know it, you're singing along.
Diamond is just a strong force today as he was in the beginning of his career. He continues to create music that adds to his legacy. This collection no doubt will have to be added onto at some point as his repetoire continually is increasing with each new release. This hits collection stands as a monument to one of America's truly great singer-songwriters.
I hope that you'll enjoy it as much as I have.
