I almost always get annoyed when I read reviews on the work of neil young; even the positive ones. I guess because his music has always been so honest and unpretentious; ever-changing to the point where you could never even categorize him as an artist. When I listen to a new recording it's like hearing from an old friend; finding out what he's been up to and what he's thinking about these days. It's not really something to judge. I always cringe when someone compares one recording to another or 'rates' one era over another. Why would anyone think they were in a position to do that? Of course there are always songs that strike closer to my heart than others...ones that reflect thoughts that I myself have had. These stay with me...the melodies and the words find their permanent place in my mind. He's provided a good deal of the soundtrack for my adult life and for that I am grateful.

So...I won't make a comparison or value judgement, but I will tell you that I found Silver and Gold to be warm, gentle, sweet and romantic. Some songs had me grinnin and some made tears flow down my face. Thanks Neil!
