After hearing CSNY's Looking Forward, I didn't know what to expect from S&G. I've read a lot of reviews and it seems that many peolpe have tried to catagorize this splendid gem with only the material presently available on CD format. I have been a fan for quite a long time, (long enough to have the stuff only available on vinyl!) So I ask, does anybody remember the songs "Old Homestead", "Lost in Space", and "Captain Kennedy" from an all but forgoten album Hawks & Doves? With someone as restlessly creative as Neil, many albums are just relief valves to make room for the truly great music stuck in the creative traffic jam that is his mind. Because of this, I start feeling now and then that Neil is winding down. Then, I remind myself that he's like a trick birthday candle...Right when you think it's all but blown out, it lights back up brighter than ever. Ultimately Silver & Gold is a superb album which draws upon a side of Neil which hasn't been heard in 20 years. Even though he's been hiding "Ravor Love" since 1987, I'm overwhelmingly pleased this beautiful song surfaced before the archives. This album is absolutely indispensible to any Neil Young fan.
