Its 1972 all over again; at least it is while you're listening to the mellow "Silver & Gold." The most frustrating thing about Neil Young--his songwriting inconsistency--is not evident here. This is a batch of ten uniformly excellent songs. Young uses his expressive falsetto voice to better effect than he has in years. He also performs the trick of writing great love songs with an absolute minimum of schmaltz. This is easilly Young's best album since "Ragged Glory."
