Neil Young

Year Of The Horse

Revisiting the lesser known chapters of the Young opus

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Neil Young tells an audience member who complains that it all sounds the same "It's one long song." Young is not giving us a thematic album (e.g. Jethro Tull's 'Thick as a Brick.' He is letting us sample live versions of material lost on albums like 'Zuma' and 'Rust.' We're not just sampling these gems either; we are on a guitar-fueled tour of "Dangerbird" and "Mr. Soul Man" and eleven more rocking, feedback-laden songs recorded live. This double ablum fills in the gaps of his previous live albums like "Live Rust." I noticed it did not get any airplay at the station I listen to, but I have it in my collection. I figure it is their loss. Great rock and roll, if you want it.
