Nelly- Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention

Nelly's "Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention" (2003) is a poor release, highlighted by lackluster and at times horrible production with the below average guest appearances to match. Personally I think Nelly was just riding his popular commercial wave, and since he did not have enough new material out he released this. If Nelly was improving the original tracks, you could understand such a album, unfortantely he either leaves them almost the same or makes them worse. Of the three new tracks only "If" stands out for me, Nelly talks to a lady over a relaxed beat. I have enjoyed Nelly's music in the past, and was impressed by "Country Grammer" but this release easily falls into the worst of 2003. I hope he steps his game up on his future albums and puts this one behind him.
