Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention

Mistakes kept this cd from being hott

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Nelly drops his 3rd solo album, "Reinventions", which is basically made up of remixes of previous songs and includes 3 songs which have never been on any previous albums. I think it was very risky for Nelly to make a remix album since all these songs are classics or big hits and fans may not be quite satisified or expect more from a remix. For the most part though, Nelly does very well "Reinventing" most of the songs but in my opinion on a few songs he makes minor mistakes or screws them up completely.

*Mistakes for instance:
-Interludes are almost between every song, and yes they're somewhat annoying!
"Ride Wit Me" - has a great new twist to it, but including City Spud at the beginning of the song I think was totally unnecessary and takes away from the song.
"Batter Up" - has additional beats added to it, but basically still sounds the same. The song actually is really hott, but it's way too long! Trying to throw everyone in from Derrty ENT was stupid.

*Songs he completely screwed up on:
"Air Force Ones" - this song sux! The original version was so hott and it is ruined by David Banner. I like David Banner and all but he just killed the crap out of this song with the beat and everything!
"Groovin Tonight" - It's exactly the same song that was on the St. Lunatics album! It's no different! Why was it put on this album? It wasn't ever a hit song either!
"Country Grammar" - E-40 in this song is wack! He raps off tune with the beat for 50 secs and after he finishes, the song is no different from the original version. Country Grammar 2 on Nellyville tops this reinvention with no doubt.

*Not too bad songs:
"Work It" - Not too bad, but I just can't stand seeing Nelly with Justin Timberlake. This song wasn't ever really a hit either, but I think it was good he redid it to expand his audience for the album.
"Pimp Juice" - its slow and drug out, but it grows on you.

*Songs I have no problem with and are all around great:
"EI" - it's amazing! David Banner comes through on this track producing the beat, and Nelly lays it down great!
"EI Remix" - it's just as awesome as the other one, even though it's the same beat, the addition of the St. Lunatics, the Tipdrill lyrics, and Chocolate just make it worth listening to again.
"If","Iz U","King's Highway" - these are the 3 new songs. Why does everyone diss on "Iz U?" I think the song is tight...and "If" and "King's Highway" are growing on me, but for the most part they're great.
"Dilemma" - everyone has been commenting on how bad this song is. Personally I like this version better than the first! The beat is amazing and the addition of Ali in the song just takes it that extra step.
"#1" - has additional beats added to it which are just make this song krazy! Plus you have the addition of Clipse and Postaboy! Well done track also.
"Hot in Here" - has a new beat to it, lyrics are almost completely the same...but trust me, you'll fall in love with this reinvented beat.

For the most part, the cd is awesome but has a few minor mistakes. These mistakes don't kill most of the songs but they do take away from them. So don't get me wrong, "Batter Up" and "Ride Wit Me" are really awesome songs, they just had mistakes which kept them from being really great.

Overall I think there's 4 songs on the cd I can't stand - Country Grammar, Groovin Tonight, Air Force Ones, and Work It.

So I suggest to most people to pick this CD up cuz it's really tight. Just don't judge it right away until you've listen through it about 4 good times. I know it sounds like I'm really dissing on this CD bad, but really it's not as bad as I prolly make it seem. Really.....there's a lot of hott remixes and new beats on here. I rated this cd 4 stars because of mistakes, interludes, and the 4 songs I dislike - which are the only problems on the cd. Also if your expecting a bunch of new songs from Nelly, don't pick this up considering there's only 3 new songs.
