The all-purpose Nick Cave album

What are the typical worries surrounding a "greatest hits" album? redundancy, poor selection, or just the fact that it oft times signals a decline in the artist. This isn't a 'greatest hits' album, it's a 'best of' meant to compile the hallmarks of Cave's career. These are the songs everybody knows and loves if they're a fan. Everyone will have their favourites and will wonder why they aren't included. But the simple fact is that Cave is rounding out his career filling in the holes, as it were. By no means an ending or a decline. A 'Best of' album and a 'live' album are necessary for any icon. And whether he likes it or not Nick Cave is one of the greatest musicans and rock icons of the latter half of this century. This album has no weak point, all the tracks are arranged nearly perfectly, there's a good balance of old and new as well as ballads and scorchers. All in all it's a perfect introduction for new fans as well as a wonderful addition for old. The way a best of album should be.
