Wild Roses was the song that got me hooked on Nick Cave back in 1995, and Murder Ballads was my first Cave album. After three years of loving this music, I can still say it's unique and very, very inspiring. Musically speaking, Murder Ballads is not the very best Cave has ever done - that glory would probably go for The Carny or the whole Let Love In album - but the stories, man, the stories! They make killing seem very fascinating business indeed. I don't think I'm the stuff that serial killers are made of, but this album helps to understand some things human beings have always done and will always do. Even the cover picture is perfect in its silent threat. And I agree with the person who recommended getting the Wild Roses single. The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane is maybe even better than any of these songs, the story is absolutely mind blowing!
