Interesting but not worth 5 stars
Review Score:

(6/10)
I will discount the fact that I have a misprinted disc three that doesn't play Sappy (aka Verse Chorus Verse) or Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sun Beam right...there are no scratches on the CD and the problems appeared the first time I had put the disc into my stereo which is weird.Everything else works and I hope I can get a new copy because I am a fan of Nirvana's work.
This box set brings back memories immediately. No matter how poor some of the recordings are it does bring you back to a time...it's as if Nirvana are still around and it's still the early 90's.
But that's all this box set will do...bring back memories and it is definitely interesting to listen to.These definitely aren't masterworks and Disc two loses many points for ending with Smells Like Teen Spirit.Who the hell ends with Smells Like Teen Spirit? The song just doesn't work as a closer and disc two suffers for it.
Disc one has the raw energy and disc three has the songs in my opinion.I prefer the first disc though...during the demo of Rape Me there is a really annoying baby crying which takes away from the music.I haven't heard from anyone who has had the same problem with Verse Chorus Verse and JDWMFAS...it just starts skipping for no reason. As I said,no scratches.Never used the disc before.
The DVD is very low quality but it's actually the best part of the whole box set.My favourite parts are the shots in Krist's basement. The songs are great and I just find a lot of it funny.Kurt with his long ass hair singing into a wall.He probably had some stage fright.I love the dancing dude with the mustouche.Who is this guy?No one cares. He just dances.Bitchin' version of The Immigration Song.Favourite part though is when Jurt is approaching the camera looking all cool shredding his guitar and he loses his pick.Man!That's funny! And that Seasons In The Song cover....that's really disturbing to me.Kurt looks to be having so much fun just jamming with his friends/band mates. It's supposed to be funny...but it is just not the case.
Anyway,in final...this will look good in your collection. No one has said anything about the 90 page booklet. The book is fantastic.I'm still working on reading it all.Definitely for the fans and the fans deserve it.
