The Singles 1992-2003

To The Guy Who Said Girls Can't Lead A Rock Band...HA HA!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Many people may have thought that No Doubt started in 1995,so a lot of you may have been surprised that the album's title was "1992-2003".But,it is a good addition to this great collection of hits, even though it is only one song(the wonderfully quirky "Trapped In A Box").The collection itself is one that defined and brought back girls who can rock.Well,at least girls who lead a rock band who can rock, but it's the same thing.Anyway, the tracks from No Doubt's '95-'96 classic Tragic Kingdom are the best ones to listen to,showcasing No Doubt at the prime of their career(Highlights:the quintessential break-up song "Don't Speak",the girl's anthem "Just A Girl").The tracks from Return Of Saturn, one of the most underrated albums in history,I might add, showcase No Doubt at the prime of not their commercial career, maybe, but definitely at the prime of their artistry(Highlights from this album:"Simple Kind Of Life",which Gwen wrote and produced all by herself;my personal favorite from the greatest hits album:"Bathwater").Rock Steady, their weakest album to date, does have some bright moments(the reggae-flavored "Underneath It All",the damn-catchy "Hey Baby"),but the rest is just, well, weak!"It's My Life" stands as the best remake of 2003,and is a very good addition to this collection, but it does get a little annoying after a while. But,the Tragic Kingdom tracks definitely make the album an essential part of any CD collection. And,some of the relationship songs are so memorable, they have become rock classics after 4 or 5 years("Ex-Girlfriend" which is about a girl regretting ever going out with the wrong guy;"Bathwater" is ironically about a girl wanting a guy back).Another thing that makes this "greatest hits" compilation amazing is that they blended so many different genres in their producing, from ska to reggae to pop to funk to dancehall, and they made it appealing to everyone! That's nearly impossible!Oh,and Gwen's voice(5/5).

The Verdict:I've Been Waiting For No Doubt To Release A "Greatest Hits" Album For So Long,And They Finally Have.If I could,I'd give this more than 5 stars! And they brought us the genre called SKA!Who doesn't love that?!

Good, but could have been better

I'm a big "No Doubt" fan, and I own all their music. In this collection I would have liked to have seen a couple songs from the B [ ... read complete review ]
