Be Here Now

Great rock record

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Sometimes we remember records for the tunes, or we remember for the time in ur lives when we got them. "Be Here Now", for me, is a bit of both.
I remember going with a friend to get it the week it came out, with high expectations after loving "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" and the lead off single, the odd, long "D'You Know What I Mean". We put it on my friends stereo when we got back to his house and turned it up as lud as it could go, and for the next seventy minutes, I couldn't believe my ears. They had actually managed to followup "Morning Glory".
So this record quickly became THE fall album I would listen to my freshman year from high school. Sure there were more "cool" records like Prodigy's "Fat of the Land" or Radiohead's "OK Computer"(which I will admit is a better record then this), but I listenend to this record so many times, that I could pretty much recite even the most obscure, buried in the mix guitar sound on request.
What do the songs like? Well, they sound like Oasis, just louder and longer. Sure, most o the songs that go on for seven minutes could've been trimmed down to four minutes, but so what? The epic anthem "All Around the World" is great at its length, a song that demands to be played loud with you screaming along with Liam. "Don't Go Away" was an instant Oasis classic, and sounds just like a song that a sad pop star would write while missing his girlfriend in a dirty dressing room.
"My Big Mouth" is a slightly funny take on all of Oasis critics, and the one two shot of "I Hope, I Think, I Know" and "The Girl In The Dirty Shirt" are two of the best songs that Gallagher has ever written.
Whenever I listen to this record, it takes me back to the time and place when I first got it, much like The Smashing Pumpkins "Adore". And surprisngly, its held up really well. If you already have the first two LP's, and REALLY love them, you should really love "Be Here Now". Its rock 'n' roll as it was meant to be played: loud, hard and melodically.

Essential Oasis

I like Be Here Now better than Morning Glory, quite frankly. There is not one bad song on this CD. Stand By Me is the standout, in my humbl [ ... read complete review ]
