Oasis

Definitely Maybe

Strong debut

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
So what if Oasis are no good now? In 1994 (has it leen that long??) they loaded, locked and rocked all over the world on their debut.

The album opens with "Rock N Roll Star," a ballsy rocker that is all throttle, and it never lets up. "Live Forever" was the lead single from the album and it's easy to hear why. The vocal melody is sweeter than cotton candy, while the music is both soaring (in the chorus) and rocking (in the closing 1:30.) The sneering vocals on "Cigarettes and Alcohol" are teriffic, even if they harken back to a day when I thought they were true ('Is it worth the aggra-vay-shun/to find yourself a job when there's nothin' worth looking for) but now realize they aren't.

"Digsy's Diner" swaggers with a fuzzed guitar and jazzy piano and the balladeering on "Slide Away" offers brief respite from the all-out rocking taking place around it.

Sadly *and* fortunately this album is available in used stores throughout the country, making sure that you have no excuse for not owning this CD. To paraphrase Nike, "Just Buy It."
