Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants

Good Album, But Not Great

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is not without its faults. "I Can See a Liar" is incredibly derivative, and "Little James" is proof that Liam should let his brother write the songs from now on.

However, there are some definite gems here. "F--kin' in the Bushes" is a great opener, "Go Let it Out" will have you singing the entire song by the second or third listen, and Noel's "Where Did it All Go Wrong?" is a beautiful piece of work.

Yet it is the final track, the slow and moody "Roll it Over", that is the most fascinating, probably because it sounds so un-Oasis. It shows how far Noel has come in his songwriting since "Definitely Maybe".

Overall, a good album, but a couple of miscues prevent it from becoming a great one. If you love Oasis, then definitely get this album. But for casual fans, try the aforementioned "Definitely Maybe".
