Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants

It's Getting Better Man!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
It is not Definitely Maybe. Nor is it What's the Story (Morning Glory)? But it is a drastic departure. Noel has crafted another solid rock & roll album. SOTSOG is lyrically more profound than the previous 3 studio albums. Although the album contains 2 dispensable songs, the remainder are of the highest quality. It is clear that Noel did accomplish his goal: to stay clear of Be Here Now's weaknesses.

This album marks the start of a transitional phase. Noel is maturing as a songwriter, delving deeper lyrically and musically, diversifying his palette. "Who Feels Love?" and "Gas Panic!" are two examples of dynamic songwriting. Not only are they boldly different but possess some of the most intimate lyrics Noel has ever written.

The album is fantastic. However, it lacks the sheer joy and youthfulness its predecessors had. Nevertheless, one must realize that it is merely a progession in what will be a string of phenomenal and uplifting rock & roll albums.
