"Standing" seeks a more raw and stripped down version of the Oasis we all know. The production isn't as slick and vocals effects are not over-done...this is a very good thing. Where "Be Here Now" suffered in it's over-production and muddled riffs, "Standing" cranks out with a bit more gusto. Tracks like "Put Your Money..." and "I can See A Liar", could very well have been on the first CD, "Definitely Maybe". There are some lyrics that could use some work, but I never really listened to Oasis for insightful, deep lyrical content. I listen for raw energy and unforgettable, anthem-like melodies. "Standing" is a good step in that direction.
To me this is a very good in-between album. After a major line-up change that included the addition of two major talents, (Andy Bell from Ride/Hurricane #1 and Gem from Heavy Stereo) Oasis' next trip into the studio should be quite good. Andy Bell's work in Ride and Hurricane #1 speaks for itself, and if Noel and Liam use him, they will have a ton of amazing stuff for us to listen to. The future couldn't be brighter.
