Offspring

Americana

The CD that defines the Offspring

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Americana is a one-of-a-kind CD. It is a mix of all that the Offsring stand for and each individual song has its own purpose:

Welcome(Intro)-Most Offspring CDs begin with an Introduction and it would be a shame to break that tradition. Can't really score it because it's not music but if I could, I'd give it-(4/5)

Have You Ever-The first song on the CD. Very catchy with great transitions in rythym and lyrics. (5/5)

Staring at the Sun-A short fast paced song that most CDs by the Offspring have. ex. Conspiracy of One, Leave it Behind. (5/5)

Pretty Fly (for a white guy)-This is the song that made the Offspring what they are today; a legendary rock band in my own opinion. This is the song that every one recognizes. (6/5)

The Kids Aren't Alright-Awesome power chords and the vocals kick. (5/5)

Feelings-A filler song they didn't even write but I am glad there's only one. (1/5)

She's Got Issues-One of the Offsprings original punk ballads used on this CD so no one forgets their original punk music. (5/5)

Walla Walla-I always loved the Offspring's humor and when they put it to song, it cracks me up! I love the choral vocals they use just like Ixnay when they used them on Way Down the Line. (5/5)

The End of the Line-The Offspring use this type of song on their CDs; a slower, minor key type song that relates to the death of a person. ex. Vultures, Gone Away. (5/5)

No Brakes-A filler song for the album, but a good one which the Offspring wrote. (5/5)

Why Don't You Get a Job?-I know, I know, it's a big take-off of the Beatles and their song Ob-La-Dee Ob-La-Da, but honestly, I think the Offspring did a much better job of arranging that song. Funny lyrics, better tone and key, and much better instrumentation. (5/5)

Americana-A good song that corresponds to the title but I kind of get bored of it after awhile. (3/5)

Pay the Man-The best song on this album! Long intro that comes with an excellent performance with the guitar. I love the transitions in rythym and sound. It moves from a quiet Indian Sitar sound to a grinding Hard Rock tune. Great Lyrics as well. (6/5)

This CD is well put together and all of the good songs on this CD certainly make up for any flaws it had.
