Offspring

Americana

Is pop sucess really all that it's cracked up to be?

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
That's the question i was asking when i heard the Offspring's fifth album to date "Americana". The pop vibe of this 11-track disc makes it almost ubearable to hear some of the songs. The parady punk "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" may have made it onto MTV's Total Request Live but it wasn't really a good song. The regaee-feel of the Beatles ripoff "Why Don't You Get A Job" also lands as a pop phenomenon gone bad. The hardcore "The Kid's Aren't Alright" has an Iron Maiden-type intro but pulls off strong while "She's Got Issues" is a rock thrash of obsene language and heavy rock music. Although, the title track proves to bring a sense of somewhat organization to this otherwise punk pop disc gone wrong, the Offspring really needed to improve from this one, so let's be glad "Conspiracy Of One" didn't totally sell it's soul to the devil to get some play on TRL.
