This album was a major flounder. [Americana] signalled the beginning of the Offspring's major publicity drive. Their songs were now mass produced and over exposed in the media. As a result, people became sick of this album after about 2 months. When it comes to the Offspring, people always rate thier singles the best. I find that "spoon-fed deadheads" are the ones with this opinion, as they do not have the intelligence to really listen to the true message of a song. Almost all of their singles are pointless and just plain [poor]. I draw an exception to "gotta get away" and "Gone away" which were both good, but "all i want", "Get a job" and "pretty fly" are all trashy little jingles whose lyrics I wouldn't wipe my [rear] with! For a really good song, download "Amazed" which was sadly over shadowed by "all i want". I feel that the majority of morons tuned it to it, and refused to venture to the back of the CD. The Offspring is about true feelings and the realities of life, not selling cheap songs to a bunch of stupidoes who rely on the media for a cheap music fix. Those who want good music will know that Smash is probably not the great legend that it is, as the first album is totally under-estimated. Ixnay was also excellent. These 3 albums all have their strong and weak points, but I guess that Smash is the first one that sold a large amount of copies...but I like Ixnay purely because of "Amazed"
