American is easily the best Offspring album, so much that other artists consider is one of their biggest influences. For example, it is very apparent to me at least that the Beatles ripped off Why Don't You Get A Job with their song Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. I am pretty sure that wannabe "punk" bands like Rancid consider the Offspring to be one of their biggest influences, even though those major label slaves Rancid are far too commercially minded to ever make a powerful artistic statement such as Americana.
Oh, and don't go thinking that the "mock-hop" song Pretty Fly For a White Guy and the rocking "The Kids Aren't All Right" are the best songs on this album either. Nope, those are the worst songs here by far. All the other songs on this album are way better than those two, in fact there isn't a sloppy one in the whole bunch. The second song on this album, "Have You Ever," may very well be the greatest song ever written, and it sounds absolutely nothing like anything off of the previous album. In fact, this album sounds COMPLETELY different from Ixnay on the Hombre. I sincerely hope you will buy it, because it is the most mature, artistic, beautiful, innovative, sincere Offspring album ever made.
