Ixnay on the Hombre

Better than Average

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
Ixnay on the Hombre was The Offspring's follow-up to their breakthrough album Smash, and they where most likely under a lot of pressure in trying to create a second Smash. The Offspring's first album on Columbia Records after moving from epitath, Ixnay actually turned out nothing like Smash, and it is a full 90 degree turn from Smash. This album shows alot more diversity than Smash, with punk ballads (if there is such a thing) like Amazed, Change the World, and Gone Away. There are some ska-ish songs like Don't Pick it up and I see a tad of ska (hardly any) in Way Down the Line. There are some of The Offspring better songs on this album, like The Meaning of Life, All I Way, and Gone Away, which all rank in my top 15 Offspring songs, All I want being my 3rd favorite Offspring song of all the albums. Besides those three song however, the rest of the album is good, much more than listenable, but not as good as the songs from the other albums. Ixnay is an essential Offspring fan album, but unlike other Offspring albums it is not jam packed with great punk anthems.
