I just bought "Boingo" for the third time. I'd take this CD to parties or lend it to a friend and never see it again. It's one of those secret "unheard" discs that only a lucky few stumble upon - and when they do - they refuse to let it go.

To be honest, I first purchased this title back during my stoner days when a pair of headphones and a darkened room were my best friends. I'm "pot-free" these days and "Boingo" still sounds incredible!

Granted - several cuts suffer from concept overkill and bombastic orchestral arrangement, but they still please the ear. "Lost Like This" and "Insanity" are especially burdened by heavy, cheesy studio production, but, DAMN! they still sound so sweet! The cover of "I am the Walrus" is (forgive me) better than the original. The Beatles were so deep into vanity and irony that they never exploited the rockin' meat of this song which Boingo does with a vengeance.

Of course, the crown jewel here is "Change". It runs for an impossible 16 minutes, but not a single second is wasted. This amazing opus is a sublime ballad that morphs into an arena rock anthem and then back again. It is born of references to The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen and even The Rembrandts. "Change" is quite possibly the best song ever recorded.

Buy this CD and don't let it out of your sight! Trust me...anybody you play it for will want to borrow it.
