Overkill

The Years Of Decay

You have to hear this!

Overkill knocked me off my feet with this one. Yes, they always were heavy, hateful and powerful. But never were they THIS heavy as hell.
Having obvious Black Sabbath influenceson this record, Overkill managed to improve their dry sound drastically. The rhythm section is tight, and the bass-guitar adds head-crushing heaviness. The guitars are precise and sharp. The vocals are deeper than before, yet still instantly recognizable.

The tracks selection is excellent and varied, with not a single one being filler. Highlights are the slow-to-a-crawl and heavy "Skullcrusher", the fast "Birth of Tension", epic-sounding "Who Tends the Fire", and the surprizing melodic, almost balladesque "The Years of Decay"

This is definitely Overkill's finest hour, and is a worthy purchase to almost any metalhead.
