The original album does deserve FIVE PLUS STARS. I had the original cassette when I was 8, the Jet CD when I was 17 and the 1995 Bob Ludwig remastering job since 1996, which all rocked!
When I heard news that it would be re-released in 2002 I thought what the hey and was looking forward to the new version. However, before I was to go spend $10 I and many fans of the original album were in for a horrific shock! Instead of owing what was coming to original drummer Lee Kerslake and bass player Bob Daisley(which was their royalties for co-writing and excellent playing on the album), Ozzy's greedy egomaniacal manager/wife Sharon decides to (shock!, gasp!, horror!) REPLACE their backing tracks with Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo and ex-Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin.
Songs like Crazy Train, Suicide Solution and Revelation(Mother Earth) and what not all now sound like ****! The vibra-slap on the 2002 Crazy Train sounds like it was played on a Kurzweil! This would remind me of if Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reissued the original version of Abbey Road with Paul's solo band and session singers replacing the late John Lennon and George Harrison's parts.
The performances on this fake remaster are so bad that I did not ever bother buying it. Avoid this and Diary and Bark and buy either the 1980s Jet/CBS CD or the 1995 Epic remaster(this new version is ridiculous).
No stars, this is ridiculous!
