Here is why. They were re-recorded because of a lawsuit against Ozzy by Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake, the original bass player and drummer from the "Blizzard of Ozz" and "Diary of a Madman" albums. The plaintiffs claim that they were deprived of performance royalties from these albums....While I'm not sure whether they are due anything from Ozzy, I do know that his reaction (this re-released album) is a misjustice to his fans and the original recording place in the history of music. So, to keep a long story short, don't buy this version of this album.
While I am personally a fan of Rob Trujillo, the modern-sounding drums and bass that have been mixed into this classic album of the early `80s sounds out of place... distracting. The bass and drums are the foundation for this classic music and should not be the centerpiece. Imagine putting a small red rose in the corner of an Ansel Adams photograph. Your focus would be the little red rose, not the majestic black and while landscape. The same effect is achieved by tracking in the modern drums and bass. I find myself ignoring Randy's masterful guitar-work and Ozzy's angst-ridden howls. Do yourself a favor and buy the version released in 1995 (ASIN: B000002B7M).
