this, like a LOT of other amazon reviewers, is, was, and always will be my favorite solo ozzy disc. i bought it when it first came out in 1982, and unlike "blizzard of ozz", i loved EVERY track on the lp! why one star? well, it's because of the desecration of re-recording something w/ new musicians that should never have been tampered with to begin with. by the way, i've noticed that a lot of reveiwers are "shocked" that ozzy could do this to randy rhoads' memory. and, i too have heard and/or read how much ozzy loved randy like a brother/best friend, etc, etc. it struck me kind of odd whenever i remember seeing ozzy live that year (it was the very last show w/ rhoads, he died the very next day), because i still remember hearing ozzy @ some point in the concert announce that his guitarist was leaving the band after that gig. i've encountered other people over the years that were at that same show, and they also claim too have heard the same announcement. another thing that i only thought of recently, is that if ozzy was SO torn up by randy's death, then why didn't he cancel the concert.?. i remember all too well that he hired guitarist bernie torme and kept right on truckin' down the road, gaining his success not necesarily from the 1st two solo lp's, but more so over the death of randy rhoads--THAT'S what propelled ozzy to superstardom, not his "ozzy the apeman" antics! by the way, one reviewer on here had a GREAT idea: let tony iommi take the 1st 8 sabbath albums and re-release them with a new vocalist, like tony martin or r.j.dio, or better yet, clay aiken (hey, i know he's a pop idol, but the mother can sing! imagine his voice w/ sabbath's mean music!). anyways, i hope i can eventually find a copy of "diary of a madman" & "blizzard of oz" that haven't been touched by sharon. (and that's why it always bothered me when people wanted to slam yoko ono for being such a provocative artist who married a beatle. at least SHE didn't try to get john to remix any beatle albums, and replace paul's vocal tracks w/ hers. yes, the new remixed versions of the 1st two ozzy cd's are that bad!! (and i love yoko, but not as a beatle!). i've always had my "suspicions" surrounding the fateful plane crash that took randy's life (even though i was never one to hold him in such high regard as a guitarist. he was good. not GOD!) and after reading in one of the amazon reviews that he and sharon had a brief romance in the early 80's, well that kind of fits right in there w/ other motivation. i don't mean to sound all "conspiracy theory", but, like i said, if oz was really that close to rhoads, you would think that the first thing he'd do would be to cancel any future concert dates; but, that falls under management...get the picture anyone?!?! oh, and when bernie took leave, ozzy STILL kept touring! he brought in brad gillis of night ranger and then proceeded to keep on touring. and don't forget that was also the year that black sabbath finally released an official live album, "live evil". it was also the same year that petty ozzy HAD to release a double live album of nothing but old sabbath songs, called "speak of the devil". when i think of what happened to ozzy during that period, and the years that followed, i can sum it up by stating what a travesty! i was a bigger fan of sabbath's, and still am. i just wish that tony iommi would kick the apeman out of the band again (even if it means losing geezer butler) and carrying on with yet a whole new line-up. or bring back glenn hughes! or any number of singers, famous or not. i just wish that iommi would realize that HE'S got his share of fans that think sabbath without ozzy is a better sabbath! "blizzard" and "diary" were the only TRUE ozzy ozbourne records released, and now sharon, the wicked witch from who knows where has ruined those. thanks a lot! not!!
