Far Beyond Driven was Pantera's breakthrough album. It surprised everyone by reaching #1 on the Billboard 200. It starts out with the pulverizing "Strength Beyond Strength" and "Becoming". They had a hit with "5 Minutes Alone" which had some crazy guitar and drum work by Dimebag and Vinnie Paul. Phil Anselmo has totally lost sight of his hairband sounding yelps for pure insane chaotic screaming, which is a good thing because Phil's voice is a major part of Pantera's sound. "Good Friends and A Bottle Of Pills" is the strangest Pantera song to date. Rex plays some wicked bass and Phil goes into metal histarics. "I'm Broken", "Slaughtered", "25 years", "Use MY Third Arm" and the cover of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" make Far Beyond Driven a must own for any metal fan. It is strictly played in a unique and brutal form that no other metal band has mastered to this day.
