Pantera

Reinventing The Steel

Does not stand up to repeat listening

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (4/10)
What this album has going for is that at the time it was released, Pantera fans were starved for new material. Two years later, this album has been on my shelf since I can't even remember.

While the songs here are still pretty aggressive, there is nothing about them that makes me want to listen to them more than once. "Goddamn Electric," supposedly the anthem for metal, is a monotonous, boring, and downright silly song. ...The only decent song is "I'll Cast a Shadow" which comes across more as a "Planet Caravan" style outtro.

The problem with this album is not the execution, it's that the songs are repetitive, have completely stupid lyrics, and the guitar solos are boring. "Death Rattle" and "We'll Grind That Axe..." are perfect examples of this.

For me, this is just another disc occupying space. Sure, judge it for yourself, but maybe pick up a used copy instead.
