This is one of those albums that hits you right away. Pounding riffs courtesy of dimebag darrel and furious drumming of vinnie paul. They succeeded on this release with making extremely catchy but still heavy songs. They pretty much accomplished where bands like Sepultura fail. Each song has a personality of its own and totally sticks out from the rest. Phil belts out his vocals just right, a mix of yelling and grunting but always understandable lyrics. Any band can play 1 million miles and hour and grunt ignorant lyrics out , but few can make it catchy and memorable with repeated listens. Pantera succeeds and as a result makes one of the more consistent quality heavy thrash records of all time. They carried the flag that slayer started, although much more bluesy and chunky guitar sound. Also more fun and powerful than evil and dark. Definately stood the test of time. Call this album a metal classic for the ages and a must own. Also check out Cowboys from Hell and Far Beyond Driven for more of their addicting sound.
