Pantera

Vulgar Display Of Power

The Cowboys from Heck...hahahaha!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Pantera may very well be the very first nu metal band. The Exhorder influenced Texans have the Staccato riffs, the pseudo macho man vocals and attitude to boot. But there is a difference folks, and that is: Pantera know how to play their instruments! From Hardcore influenced sludging mayhem, to grungy ballads, its all here, but done with passion and panache. Some of the lyrics are funny and ironic (like the ones promoting racial harmony when half of Pantera's shirts have the confederate flag) but we can't always hold that against them. I just rebought this album and realizing its ten years old now (gasp!) I see how mainstream metal has come a long way (down). This should be considered a classic, keeping thrash/modern metal alive in the early nineties while Metallica and others started to churn out garbage.
