One Second

Brilliant Gothic Metal.

The Amazon[.com] editorial review highlights the the group of individuals who will never let a band progress musicaly and will forever condemn them as sellouts / ripoffs etc. Most bands loose their magic after 2 or 3 albums that are in the same style and then gradualy fade away. Some bands will attempt a dangerous change in musical direction with sometimes deadly results. Loss of a fanbase and even worse - then fact is that they are unable to pull off the new style with conviction. Paradise Lost are very talented and I am glad to say that they took the plunge and landed firmly on their feet. They may have lost some old fans but no one one can say that they are stagnant and even the sceptics are always curious how each album will sound like.

Lets examine the album: The music is still heavy with more industrial and gothic influences. Nick Holmes no longer yells, instead he opts for a clear and sinister gothic voice. The dark depressive themes remain throughout the album and in some they are stronger here than on other PL CD's - Tracks like "One Second" , "Another day" give me chills on every listen. Overall the songs are very catchy and alternate between somber and more upbeat beats.

To sum things up this is a strong and artistic work that won't win the heart of narrow-metalheads, however those that like dark, and melodic music will enjoy this one.
