Paradise Lost

One Second

Fantastic! - A creative and gutsy band

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Paradise Lost gives me a reason to live. Its paradoxical because Nick Holmes is always complaining about everything. But I find solace in these complaints.

Draconian is to PL what black album is to Metallica. But after black album the latter went mad but the former went for all guns blazing. You need to have more than guts to explore why you are doing what you are doing and change what you dont like to enjoy. After years of beating the hell outa guitars and screaming the guts out, these gentlemen created this slow poison. The tittle track One Second, which I have heard about a zillion + times till now, give me goose flesh if I hear it today. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Compared to the subsequesnt album of theirs, Host (another classic) this album is less than complex, approachable and straight into your heart. Say Just Words is brilliant live song, its played to head bang to the chugging guitars of Aron. Greg Macintosh plays most of the keys on this album and what a wonderful artist he is! The intro to Lydia is introspective, it makes you think, again and again while the song is completed gracefully. Mercy is perhaps the best track in the album and definately one of PLs best career work. Soul Courageous could be on Draconian, its menacing just like Blood of Another, seminal metal, man, if you cant head bang to these songs, you just cant head bang. .....
