The album One Second from Paridise Lost is quite simply brilliant. Having been a fan of the band before the albums release I was at first stunned by the change in musical direction that the band took, but after a few listens I found myself being drawn into the album. This is an album that's hard to compare to previous Paradise Lost albums, but you do hear many of the same emotions and lyrical themes. Overall this album emphasizes the lighter side of Paradise Lost. While it is influenced by modern or "popular" influences it's definately not lacking any power or strength of past Paradise Lost works. The band went for more of a mood setting effect with the music while the vocals are strongly showcased. The band also uses electronic sampling on this album, but it is also used as a backdrop to help set the overall vibe of the album. As always the lyrics are amazing. Nick Holmes is a master of putting emotions into words. The listener is able to grasp the overall concept of the song, but your also able to take what you want from the song and make your own intrepretations. This album to me is very personal and moving. I would suggest this album to anyone who is a fan of artists from Tori Amos to Stabbing Westward to Dream Theater.
