"Only"As Good As It Gets

Though Patty Loveless had scored numerous hits, her switch to a new label and this album was the catalyst for things to come, not only critically(which was never a problem), but commercially as well. Opening with the rocking 'You Will', Loveless journeys through a typically flawless song cycle, easily balancing uptempo ('Blame It On Your Heart') with balladry('Nothin But The Wheel')as well as old school country('Love Builds The Bridges'). It's an act few can do with this much ease, but Loveless has always been several rungs up on the Nashville ladder creatively. The album also houses possibly her greatest artistic achievement, the stunningly carthartic ballad 'How Can I Help You Say Goodbye' which justly became a career milestone for her. One of the great country albums of the '90's.
