Paul Simon

Graceland

Flawless

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
This album came as a true surprise to me when it came out in 1986. Paul Simon is putting out classic music in 1986, after being MIA for so long? Who would've thunk it?

But this is indeed a great album. GREAT. Here are just a few of my favorite highlights in an album full of them: I love the statement that "The Boy In the Bubble" makes. The fretless bass player is AMAZING. Ladysmith Black Mambazo's voices shine with the purity of the human soul. The duet with Linda Ronstadt on "Under African Skies" is fantastic, and invokes images of the vast Serengeti. The New Orleans zydeco song is a true toe-stomper. And finally, another one of my favorite bands, Los Lobos, revs up "The Mystery Of Fingerprints."

It's too bad Simon sank to the nadir of his career and put out junk like "The Capeman" after this. But Graceland is a keeper.
