When I sometimes think about the music industry today, I always think that it is starting to become a load of crap. There really aren't that many artists that've been influences to the whole new generation of artists out there. Still, it doesn't surprise me for one minute. Nevertheless, there are so many great artists out there, they can always cancel out on each other. When it came to music in the 70's and 80's there were very few rejects. At that time, one of the most dynamic artists ever made in full bloom, Peter Gabriel. Still, he has came a real long way since his days as the original frontman of Genesis. But it doesn't surprise me to see that he is still making some of the greatest music out there right now.

With Shaking The Tree: 16 Golden Greats, it reflected Peter's biggest influences from songs from the 70's and 80's. The songs here range from groundbreaking hits like Sledgehammer (which holds the record for the most awards given to at the MTV Music Video Awards, 9) and Big Time, to his darker and earthier hits like Mercy Street and Red Rain. The collection is truly a giant for any fan of his. Still, the collection doesn't focus in with his work in movie soundtracks from the 1990's, or other songs like Steam from Us, and even In Your Eyes, which is one of the greatest love songs of all time.

Nevertheless, there should be another Greatest Hits package in the works for Peter Gabriel. Kelly Clarkson and 50 Cent don't even realize how truly a influence in this industry can really be. Still, I just wish that he could have a huge comeback soon. In the meantime, this collection will have to do.
