Gabriel's Best on one CD

Shaking the Tree is a great collection of Peter Gabriel's best work. Throughout his career his music has been both truly brilliant (albums like 'So' and 'Security' exemplify this) and downright awful ('Us' and his second self-titled album). A lot of his music suffers from a lack of continuity, and some of it just seems like he's thrown riffs he likes together to create a song with no common foundation. However, Shaking the Tree sorts out the best from the worst. Every one of the songs on the album is a classic, is different from the last, and demonstrates the lyrical and musical wizardry Gabriel is capable of. If you've never listened to Peter Gabriel before, definitely get this album - if you don't like it then you won't like the rest of his work.
