This is a remarkably uneven album, but nevertheless Gabriel's best. It alternates between dark, somber, intense atmospheres like "Red Rain" "Don't Give Up" and "Mercy Street," and less successful shlock-techno-rock like "Big Time" and "Sledgehammer." Here and there are short odd numbers like "We Do What We're Told" and "This Is The Picture," which wear out pretty quick. But "In Your Eyes" and "That Voice Again" are first rate.
