Music Critics Hate US, But Humans Generally Enjoy It

The critic here says that US is or Gabriel fans only, but in reality, there's only one kind of person it's not good for--US is not a good album for music critics. Let's be frank: It doesn't show much development artistically, the lyrics are bluntly personal to the point of embarrassment, and its often-doleful tone can't hold a candle to the pop vibe of SO. However, it's probably one of the five best theme albums in history to deal so closely with relationships and loss, and I think it may be the greatest breakup record ever made. So if you're a Gabriel fan, you'll love it, and if you're an ordinary human being, you'll probably find yourself coming to it for support every now and again. But if you are music critic, I'd certainly recommend SO instead--or maybe the album where his face is melting on the cover, if "Sledgehammer" is too commercial for you.
