Phil Collins

Both Sides

What a pile of pants!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (2/10)
The title track is this album's only saving grace, as I bought the album on the strength of that single. The rest of the album is an utter pile of wank. It is slow, boring and goes nowhere. It is not relaxing or melancholy, only painful. I even thought I could use this to go to sleep but it didn't even work for that and I ended up tossing and turning having to listen to the whole of this dross. The album goes on about how morals have faded since the days of Phil's youth. No-one likes someone moaning about something especially when they don't practice what they preach. Being happily married and a devoted husband might have helped enhance the moral theme of the album but no-one new about the affair with that sexy Swiss girl until a year later. That affair might have not seemed so bad if this album hadn't come out. The one star is purely for the song Both Sides which while not on a par with Against All Odds or anything by Genesis is not a bad little tune, with a message that doesn't come across as being smug or patronising.
