With "Both Sides", Phil Collins delivers an album that may leave some fans a bit disappointed--for those who love Phil for his danceable hits, this is definitely not "No Jacket Required" revisited; it actually harkens back more to the sound of "Face Value"--an undeniably melacholy album, this is also easily his most personal. The songs are moody & among his most rewarding & satisfying. "Can't Find My Way" is a haunting, edgy tale, & the slightly jazzy "There's A Place For Us" with it's great melody line & structure is romantic brilliance. "We Fly So Close" with it's acoustic guitar melody is suprising, & the song actually sounds very reminiscent of "In The Air Tonight". Not every song is a masterpiece, no way, but it's one of Phil's most rewarding albums, & his serious fans, & perhaps some detesters as well, will really enjoy & appreciate it. The long, slow dirges make it a great album for pondering along with.
