the story behind "in the air tonight"

everyone loves phil's in the air tonight, am i right? it gives me goose bumps. if you haven't ever heard the story behind that song...phil and one of his good buddies were out drinking on a pier late one night. neither one of them knew how to swim, and having been drinking, made it worse. so, phil's buddy feel into the water, and knowing that he couldn't swim either, phil began to panic, looking for anyone else around. he saw a man, on the next pier, and yelled to him. many times. the man kept telling he would be okay. not to worry. his friend ended up drowning that night. phil was soo heartbroken. he found out who that man was, that wouldn't help his dying friend. he made sure that they would visit close to where the man lived on his next tour. he sent the man a ticket in the mail, and knew where he'd be sitting. he had also kept this song a big secret. after the show, as an encore, phil had a spot light show up on this man, and himself only. he sang the song. and if you really listen to the words, it will totally make sense. that night, the man that wouldn't help his drowning friend went home, and killed himself. makes the song even cooler, doesn't it? this is totally true, i didn't make it up. listen to the words, and you'll know.
