Pink Floyd

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

It's pretty good, but may not be what is expected

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
Fact: This album contains the songs "Learning to Fly" and "On the Turning Away". It was released in 1987 without bassist Roger Waters having any writing credits or performing credits in the band.

Opinion: This album doesn't sound like Pink Floyd. If the listener is expecting the sound to be similar to Dark Side... or Wish You Were Here or The Wall or The Final Cut or, well just about anything else Pink Floyd has ever done. If you like David Gilmour's voice, you may like this album because you haven't probably heard him this much since his solo albums or prior to Animals. If you like his guitar, you very well may like this album because David Gilmour plays his guitar well and plays it a lot. If you like the lyrics of Roger Waters (such as Dark Side... or Animals or The Wall), you will most likely first vomit all over this album, then clean it off, and reluctantly add it to your now complete Pink Floyd catalog, never to be played again. If you like creative Nick Mason's drumming, then you are realizing his creative drumming has been resting in peace since it was pronounced dead during the making Wish You Were Here. We are all still mourning. If you like Richard Wright's keyboards, then you get to see him on the inside flap of the CD cover. His keyboards are just replaced with synthesizers that do not require his abilities.

This album DOES contain the two songs mentioned above though. But it also contains wasted space of noise such as A New Machine (parts 1 & 2). This album is enjoyable to sit and listen to. Not as good as the 1970s Pink Floyd though. If the lyrics of Roger Waters are too heavy for you or you just don't like his voice, this album may be for you.

Please don't get the impression that this is the same Pink Floyd as The Division Bell though. Or the same as anything from the Roger Waters dominated years. It's just what its title suggests it is.
