Lapse of theme and motivation

The album when compared to previous accomplishments has a lot of the feel and little of the depth of any previous project. This is simply the least favorite PF album produced more for the general audience than the traditional fan base. Take a moment and listen to the 2 solo Gilmour albums, mix in a theme of war in an attempt to trend with Waters works, remove the synergy of the what used to be PF and you get a song like "Dogs of War". The lyrics are simple, contrived, and disappointing. David was able to instead capture more of a rhythmic theme climaxing in "Sorrow". Any work from either Roger or David is worth the investment however some are more deserving than others. I feel like I need to give the members a bit of a break. They had an incredible run and decided to relax, enjoy, and produce an album every 10 years. In these days of painfully off-key screaming vocals, overly distorted guitars, and music based on volume rather than character, this blues oriented piece and capable vocalist remain a mainstay in anyone's CD collection. If anyone else wishes to rate this disc please take a moment and compare it to Animals or DSOTM. A 5 star rating for this effort would be insulting to the memory of the band post Barrett. In the meantime, please keep up the good work. It's getting better with each release.
