First Floyd experience...

This album would make a great soundtrack to a movie. If I was a producer I would write a movie just so I could use this album for it. But what kind of movie would it be? Horror? Romance? Action/War? Social commentary? Mystery? Sci-Fi? Answer: All of the above. This album covers wide variety of topics and musical flavors, and still flows seamlessly from beginning to end. It is definitely meant to be listened to in its uninterrupted entirity.
This is my first Floyd album, and the first time I listened to it, the music just went straight over my head. But within 12 hours, the music was growing on me, and my mind's radio player would not stop playing the music. Within 24 hours, this had become one of my top 10 favorites out of my 60+ cd collection.
As the disc opens with a haunting solo in the instrumental "Signs of Life", to the frightening "Dogs of War", the New Age-style percussion jamming in "One Slip" which will have you dancing, the moving ballad "On the Turning Away" (when the guitar comes in, Gilmour opens the floodgates of emotion), through to the end where by the end of "Sorrow", you'll be swearing that this music is living, breathing, and calling to you. And the keyboards here...at first they stood out a little too much, but you will realize that the keys add so much atmosphere to the album's sound. If you aren't hooked after all of this, the vocals will catch you. Gilmour's voice has such an amazing presence throughout this album. A Momentary Lapse of Reason is a 50 minute trip that no music fan should miss.
